Our Impact
We get it. We've been there. We understand the desire for normal. Basic needs are some of the most comforting things at times of medical crisis. Our main mission at the Go Lucy Go Foundation is to provide just that, a little bit of normal, to these families through our Food Pantry, Ladybug Library, monthly dinner, Welcome Bags and Busy Bags. Most of our families are on the Neuro Floors at Lebonheur. Those floors were where Lucy spent most of her time during her treatment.
How we Help
Below are some of the ways the money raised at the Race and Auction are used to bring "normal" to families.
Monthly Dinner at LeBonheur- What a better way to show some love than by serving a home-cooked meal! Once a month a group of 8-10 serve dinner to the families on the 7th floor of LeBonheur. This is a 2-3 hour time commitment. Groups may choose to provide homemade desserts for the families, sponsor the entire meal ($500), or simply serve the meal provided by Go Lucy Go.
Lunch Box Days at LeBonheur - Corporate groups and other groups are invited to join us and serve lunch to the families on the 7th floor of LeBonheur. Perfect for a group of 3-5 people, your group will go room to room delivering boxed lunches and drink. This is a 1.5 - 2 hour time commitment. Groups may choose to sponsor the meal ($250) or simply serve the meal provided by Go Lucy Go.
FedEx House Lunch or Dinner - Love to cook? This opportunity allows for larger groups to cook and serve to the families at the FedEx House and deliver to the families on the 7th floor at LeBonheur. This is a 3-5 hour time commitment and requires cooking the email at the FedEx House, serving to the families housed there and then transporting boxed meals to LeBonheur.
Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner at LeBonheur - We expand our 7th floor meals to feed the entire hospital. A group of 15-20 is needed for this event that serves approximately 200 people a hot holiday-style dinner. Crafts are also available for patients and siblings to take back to their room.
Book Drive - A book can take one on an adventure, teach something new, or be a great way to entertain. We love books at the Go Lucy Go Foundation and found them to be a good source of distraction and helped pass time during Lucy’s treatment. We established the Lady Bug Library on the 7th floor of LeBonheur as a way to share that love and escape with other families. Patients and siblings are encouraged to read and keep books from that library. New books or used books in great condition are needed. Picture books, early readers, and chapter books are welcome. Create a drop off at your place of school or work, or set up a Book Drive through Amazon or your local bookstore for new books. Note: If donating used books, please be sure they are in great condition, have no torn pages and are no stickers with personal information on book.
Welcome Bags - Sometimes the basics are what help most. Toiletries, basic necessities, a warm blanket and a few snacks can fulfill these basic needs at stressful time. Families often find themselves at LeBonheur with nothing more than what they left the house with that morning - not knowing they might not return home for days or weeks. Our bags are small way to help families during medical crisis. Groups or individuals are invited to fund items for Welcome Bags, fund and assemble, or assembly only using items provided by Go Lucy Go. Time commitment for assembly only is 1-2 hours and an option for any group size.
Busy Bags - Formerly called "Coping Kits," our Busy Bags are used to help distract patients. They are filled with small games, toys and items perfect to keep patients "busy" with engaging activities. Groups or individuals are invited to fund items for Welcome Bags, fund and assemble, or assembly only using items provided by Go Lucy Go. Time commitment for assembly only is 1-2 hours and an option for any group size.
